The magical Butterfly Pea Flower has been making quite a splash lately due to its beautiful colour, gentle earthy aroma and powerful health benefits. It has been used for hundreds of years throughout Southeast Asia and China for its anti-inflammatory properties and potent antioxidants.
We are absolutely enchanted by this beautiful little blossom (in fact, we’ve loaded our Peace Bath Spell with them!) We love to bathe in Butterfly Pea Flowers because they make the water a deeper blue the longer you soak and are great for your skin, it is a truly magical experience.
We also love to drink them! Butterfly Pea Flower has a very mild earthy taste that lends itself to almost any combination of flavours. The other very cool thing about these flowers is that they CHANGE COLOUR. When acidity is added to the tea it transforms from blue to deep purple, even to vibrant red! It can be served iced or hot, sweet or tart, with milk or not, there are so many options!
Peach and Honey Purple Iced Tea
5-7 Butterfly Pea Flowers
1 Peach finely chopped or macerated
1 tbs Local Honey
-Steep the flowers in hot water 2-3 minutes until the tea is a deep blue. Stir in the Honey and pour over ice. Stir in the peaches and watch the tea turn a deep purple! Garnish with peach slices.
Cinnamon, Maple Blue Milk Tea
1 tsp Cinnamon
1 tbs Maple Syrup
¼ cup Milk
Ice (if you want to go iced!)
-Steep the Butterfly Pea Flowers in hot water for 2-3 minutes until a deep blue is achieved. Stir in all of the other ingredients and pour over ice if desired. Garnish with a cinnamon stick.
Colour Changing Lemon Tea
Half a lemon (less or more to taste)
Ice (if desired)
-Steep those beautiful flowers 2-3 minutes. Pour over ice if desired. Squeeze in the lemon and watch the magic happen. Depending on how much you add the colour will change from a deep purple to a vibrant red. The more lemon you add, the more red your tea will become! Garnish with a lemon slice.
We hope you enjoy these beautiful tea recipes and take the opportunity for some self-care (they pair very well with a Bath Spell…) Let us know below if you’ve ever tried Butterfly Pea Flower Tea and share your favorite ways to prepare it!
