Let’s talk summer sun safety!
It’s no secret that Mama Joy and I loooooove the sun. We’ve spent many years baking in the sunshine trying to get a dreamy summer glow (plus, we’re all about vitamin D.) In fact, I created Youth Potion specifically to target Mama’s discoloration from her years of sun-worshiping. As with most enjoyable things in life, moderation is key. We all know that too much sun exposure can lead to sunburn, premature aging of the skin and skin cancer. The last few years (after quite a few scares with skin cancer in our family) I have been a lot more careful with my sun exposure, but to tell the truth, I have really missed feeling like a bronzed goddess every summer. (This photo is from back in my sun-seeking days, pregnant with Avi!)
We are very big on natural ingredients here (no surprise) and I get very bad skin irritation from most chemicals, synthetic fragrances and preservatives that are in the majority of bronzing lotions and self tanners.
The solution?
We partnered with Michelle from Innomineral Cosmetics to get our summer glow the safe and natural way! Michelle Created Innomineral because she was tired of reading labels on the back of so-called “natural” or “organic” makeup lines which often still contained skin irritants or harmful ingredients. Her pigments are the highest quality, safe and non-irritating even for sensitive skin. When we saw her gorgeous colours we just HAD to try them with the Potion.
It is SO easy to make a safe , natural bronzer by blending just a few drops of your favorite Face Potion with a dab of minerals. We use Bronze Sparkle for an all-over glow and Lunar Pink and Deceitful Copper to highlight collar bones, cheeks and the bridge of our nose! These minerals are so versatile that they work for most skin tones. Just look at how different our three skin tones are, we’re all wearing the same colours!
I want to share some ways I stay safe in the sun (beyond sunscreen.) When I use sunscreen I always choose a natural mineral sunscreen as it doesn’t cause me irritation and I don’t have to worry about the irritating chemicals found in conventional sunscreens. However, it can leave a white sheen and can affect how my makeup looks (you know I love my makeup!) So, I try to seek out shade and keep my sun exposure to a minimum the following ways.
Remember that the sun is not our enemy, moderate exposure (20 minutes or so per day) gives us great Vitamin D! As long as we are cautious to not over do it and get our tans the safe way (with our natural bronzer) we can enjoy the summer worry free. Oh, and one more thing, Alberta is one of the sunniest provinces, enjoying over 300 days of sun each year! Remember to be sun safe in the winter as well and your skin will thank you!
Xoxo

I had so much fun doing this collab with you both, Sylvan and Joy! It was a perfect summer day, not too hot, and so awesome seeing how the minerals and potion made such a beautiful effect!
