Natural ingredients are powerful, active and effective. We spend a lot of time and a large portion of our research and development budget sourcing ingredients. We obtain many oils from many sources and compare the quality, scent and effectiveness before deciding which ingredient to use in our Potions. We believe it is important to learn about and understand the ingredients that you are using in your skincare. We hope this guide brings appreciation to the wonderful gifts our Mother Earth provides! 

 

Abyssinian Seed Oil
Crambe Abyssinica
Abyssinian Oil is an effective moisturizer that aides in softening the appearance of wrinkles. It also has a decongestant effect on pores. It has a smooth, silky feel that leaves skin soft and supple and helps prevent water loss through the skin. Naturally high in erucic acid, up to 58%, this oil is easily absorbed and doesn’t leave an oily feel.

Acai Seed Oil
Euterpe Oleracea
Acai Seed Oil has a rich selection of nutritious fatty acids, has anti-inflammatory properties and is full of antioxidants. It is especially effective when used to soften the look of wrinkles. Abundant in Vitamins A, B, C and E, as well as minerals, Acai berry extract helps revive skin,  protect skin cells, and restore moisture.

Argan Oil
Argania Spinosa
Argan Oil originates in Morocco, where the Argan tree is called ‘The Tree of Life’. Most commonly used as a skin moisturizer to hydrate and soften skin. With its high vitamin E and fatty acid content, it is the ideal oil to give skin a natural boost. It absorbs easily and is non-greasy and non-irritating, so it is beneficial for all skin types.

Avocado Oil
Persea Gratissima
 Our Avocado Oil is derived from the flesh of the fruit (which takes 10 months to mature on the tree!) and contains a wide array of fatty acids, vitamins and minerals which contribute to enhancing elasticity, balancing sebum production and reducing inflammation. It has a fast rate of penetration and absorption but leaves a protective feeling on the skin. It supports cell regeneration and enhances collagen production, thereby reducing the look of wrinkles and other signs of aging. It really is a magical fruit!

Bergamot Fruit Oil
Citrus Aurantium Bergamia
Bergamot is an effective cleanser helping to unclog pores and balance oily skin. Used cosmetically it kills harmful bacteria and is great for troubled skin. Its aroma-therapeutic uses include, uplifting the mood and calming the mind. It is the oil that gives earl grey tea it’s distinctive aroma. There are numerous theories about how the Bergamot fruit received its name, the most popular one being that it is named after the Italian city in which it was originally cultivated and sold.

Black Cumin Seed Oil
Nigella Sativa
Black Cumin Seed Oil is derived from the seeds of the fennel flower. It is an excellent source of Vitamin B, which helps to retain moisture in the skin. It helps to reduce clogged pores as it is balancing for sebum production. The essential fatty acids in Black Cumin Seed Oil have antiseptic properties and stimulate a strong immune response, facilitating a clearer and brighter complexion.

Camellia Seed Oil
Camellia Oleifera
Camellia Oil comes from a wildflower that grows in China and Japan. It is a rich source of Omega-6 Linoleic fatty acids, as well as numerous anti-aging polyphenol antioxidants. It is easily absorbed by the skin with no greasy feeling, leaving it silky smooth. It reduces the appearance of aging and is an excellent emollient for keeping skin moist and supple, with a smooth finish. This soothing oil is perfect for sensitive skin.

Cardamom Seed Oil
Elettaria Cardamomum
Cardamom belongs to the same family as ginger and shares the same “warming” properties of the aromatic root. You might recognize it as one of the main ingredients in chai tea. Cardamom was one of the major spices traded between civilizations, and the herb traveled via the Middle East to Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. Cardamom improves circulation to the skin’s surface and contains antioxidants with infection fighting properties that can increase the recovery time of dark spots and blemishes. In aromatherapy, its benefits include increased energy and sensuality and imparts a sense of comfort.

Cedar Bark Oil
Cedrus Atlantica
Used cosmetically, Cedarwood Essential Oil can help soothe irritation, inflammation, redness, and itchiness. By regulating sebum production, eliminating acne-causing bacteria, and exhibiting a protective astringent property, Cedarwood Oil is reputed to guard the skin against environmental pollutants and toxins, thus helping prevent or reduce the chances of future breakouts. Used in aromatherapy Cedarwood is energizing and tension easing, perfect for times of stress or overwork.

Cera Bellina
Polyglyceryl-3 Beeswax
Cera Bellina is a hydrophilic (water loving) derivative of natural beeswax in which the free fatty acids have been converted to polyglycerol esters. When fatty acids are added to polyglyceryl (poly = many, glyceryl = glycerin) esters under alkaline conditions a new molecule is created. The large amount of glycerol functional groups makes Cera Bellina very moisturizing and mild to the skin. With Cera Bellina, natural plant and vegetable oils can be gelled, resulting in a silken feel and fondness for water. Cera Bellina’s safety and efficacy is similar to beeswax with an EWG safety rating of 1.

Chamomile Oil
Anthemis Nobilis
Chamomile is one of the oldest medicinal herbs used by humans. Chamomile is abundant in antioxidants and is soothing and calming for sensitive skin. It contains several volatile oils which help inhibit inflammatory proteins. In aromatherapy, Chamomile is soothing and aids in sleep. This is a great oil to use when you are feeling overwhelmed and in need of soothing.

Cocoa Seed Butter
Theobroma Cacao
Cocoa Butter is a natural oil extracted from the cocoa bean. It is a source of healthy fatty acids, and effective in moisturizing dry and sensitive skin. The antioxidant benefits of cocoa butter protect the skin from environmental and external pressures that can lead to irritation or damage. By reducing the extent of oxidative stress, Cocoa Butter can help to reduce the signs of aging, especially wrinkles and discoloration.

Coconut Oil (Fractionated)
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is fractionated coconut oil, meaning a specific density of the coconut oil is extracted, similar to how cream is separated from milk. This allows the Coconut Oil to remain liquid at cold temperatures and also facilitates quick absorption. It is used in cosmetic products as an emollient, creating a barrier on the skin which helps skin to retain moisture. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride has an EWG
safety score of 1.

Cucumber Seed Oil
Cucumis Sativus
The main compound in cucumber seed oil is linoleic acid. It can make up about 60% to 75% of the oil. It is light and non-comedogenic, meaning it is unlikely to cause acne or clogged pores. Cucumber Seed Oil is high in plant sterols giving it good anti-inflammatory benefits. It is high in Viitamins B, C and E making it very brightening for the skin. It also smells just like fresh cut cucumbers so it wakes up your skin
and your mind.

Evening Primrose Oil
Oenothera Biennis
Evening Primrose Oil contains high levels of essential fatty acids and is especially beneficial for dry and mature skin. It is anti-inflammatory and used for skin disorders such as eczema, psoriasis, and acne. It helps to reduce hyper pigmentation and dark spots on the skin. Traditionally, Evening Primrose is used to balance hormones. It is very rich and protective for the skin.

Flaxseed Oil

Flaxseed Oil is rich in essential fatty acids and highly concentrated antioxidants. It protects the skins moisture barrier and plumps the skin. Flaxseed Oil is very high in Omega-3 fatty acids making it ideal for skin conditions and irritation. It has been used worldwide to help the symptoms of eczema and psoriasis. Since Flaxseed Oil is very rich, it is ideal for very dry skin and harsh climates.

Frankincense essential oil is obtained from the dried and distilled resin of the Frankincense tree, which is native to specific regions of Africa and the Middle East. It gets its name from the French term for “high quality incense.” Used in aromatherapy, Frankincense helps with feelings of anxiety and strengthens immunity. Frankincense oil is a powerful astringent, helping to protect skin cells. It lifts and tightens skin to naturally and effectively slow signs of aging. It helps to reduce the appearance of blemishes, prevent wrinkles and lessen the appearance of existing wrinkles. It is toning for pores and is helpful for all skin types.

Used cosmetically, Geranium Essential Oil is reputed to tighten the skin, promote the regeneration of new skin, and diminish signs of aging. Ginger Essential Oil, distilled form the roots of the plant has earned the nickname “The Oil of Empowerment” for the feeling of confidence that it is known to inspire. Ginger Oil effectively fights bacteria on the skin and restores circulation and radiance to a dull complexion. In aromatherapy, it can enhance concentration and soothe and reduce feelings of stress, sadness, anxiety, lethargy, agitation, dizziness, and fatigue.

Grapefruit Peel Oil

Grapefruits were given their name because they grow in clusters much like grapes. Grapefruit Oil is effective in managing the overproduction of sebum, which results in blocking pores and triggering blackheads and whiteheads. It is renewing and brightening for the skin. In aromatherapy, Grapefruit Oil is energizing and uplifting like a ray of sunshine!

Grapeseed Oil improves moisture, softness and strengthens the skin’s ability to bounce back when stressed. It has anti-inflammatory properties, contains high levels of linoleic acid and does not clog pores. It is especially effective for acne-prone skin as it is remarkably fast absorbing and light. Grapeseed Oil is very high in antioxidants and improves the tone of the skin.

Jojoba Oil is rich in Vitamin E and B-complex with anti-inflammatory properties effective in skin repair and damage control. It eases the symptoms of eczema and rosacea, reducing redness, soothing and hydrating skin. Jojoba is most similar to our skins own oil and feels very protective.

Juniper Fruit Oil
Juniperus Communis
Juniper is a coniferous evergreen shrub that belongs to the pine family and is commonly found in North America, Europe and Southwest Asia. Juniper Berry is a robust antibacterial agent, with antiseptic properties making it effective in treating the symptoms of skin irritations, rashes, eczema and acne. Juniper has a very refreshing, zesty aroma and is even used to flavor gin. Cheers!

Lavender is the most used essential oil in the world today, but it has been used for over 2500 years. It is rumored that when they opened King Tut’s tomb is 1923 there was still a faint smell of Lavender left in the air. Lavender Oil is effective in killing bacteria and balancing sebum production. Pomegranates are fondly referred to as “The Fruit of Life.” They are thought to be one of the very first domesticated fruit trees and are grown all over the world today. In many cultures it is customary to bring a Pomegranate to a housewarming as a symbol of fertility, abundance and good fortune.

Our cold-pressed, organic, Pomegranate Oil is derived from pressing the seeds of the fruit. Pomegranate Oil moisturizes and nourishes dry skin by deeply penetrating. It encourages cell renewal on the surface supporting collagen production and aiding in the reversal of sun damage. It is rich in Vitamin C, antioxidants and flavonoids. Its antioxidant properties reduce the signs of aging by protecting the suppleness of the skin and reducing the appearance of fine lines.

Raspberry Seed Oil

Raspberries are one of our favourite ingredients. We use both the fruit and the oil pressed from the seeds in our Potions!

The fruit is high in antioxidants and slightly acidic helping to refresh surface skin and help you look lit from within! Filled with antioxidants, Raspberries help to protect the skin from environmental stressors. High in Vitamins C, A and E, these powerful little berries can help to brighten up the appearance of dark spots while creating increased elasticity.

Raspberry Seed Oil has a high content of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. It is a rich source of antioxidant tocopherols, hydrating the skin and creating a silky smooth feel. The oil is cold pressed leaving it full of precious nutrients. Studies have shown that many people have found relief from eczema and dermatitis with continued, topical use of Raspberry Seed Oil. Our Rose oil distilled from the petals of the Damask Rose. It is one of the worlds most prized oils for both perfumery and effects on the skin. Rose is an inti-inflammatory agent and tissue regenerator that calms the skin and reduces redness. It is especially useful in formulas for sensitive or mature skin. In aromatherapy, Rose is used both for relaxation and as an aphrodisiac.

Rose Geranium Oil
Pelargonium Graveolens 
Rose geranium essential oil is derived by steam distillation from the leaves and the stems of the Pelargonium Graveolens which is an aromatic, evergreen shrub native to South Africa. Rose Geranium oil promotes healthy skin, with anti-inflammatory properties that are effective to lessen the appearance of scars, fine lines, and puffiness. In aromatherapy, it promotes relaxation, well-being and soothes nerves.

Rosehip Fruit Oil
Rosa Canina
Rosehip Oil is derived from the seed pod of the rose plant and is known worldwide as the “oil of youth.”  It is one of natures best sources of trans-retinoic acid (natural Vitamin A) and Vitamin C which are integral for cell regeneration in the skin. It reduces the appearance of fine lines, scars, and stretch marks. It hydrates and soothes dry, irritated and weathered skin. It is quickly absorbed by the skin, leaving no oily feel. Rosehip is a powerful skin resurfacing ingredient, those with sensitive skin may choose to use it sparingly. Sunscreen should always be applied when you will be exposed to the sun. Rosemary oil has antiseptic properties, and is nutrient rich, protecting skin cells from damage caused by the sun, free radicals and aging. It is especially effective in reducing bacteria on the skins surface and calming redness associated with acne while increasing moisture retention and elasticity. In aromatherapy, Rosemary is used to increase concentration.

Sandalwood Kernel Oil

Sandalwood oil reduces inflammation of the skin, it has a calming effect and reduces skin itching. It is effective in soothing the symptoms of eczema and sensitive skin. Sandalwood has antioxidant properties that make it very useful in increasing the youthful vitality of skin. In aromatherapy sandalwood is prized for its sedative effects and comforting aroma.

Spearmint Herb Oil

Spearmint actively promotes cell regeneration and helps to rid skin of toxins. It is effective in preventing and addressing the symptoms of acne, blemishes and other skin irritations. It is useful for muscle pain and increases blood flow to sore areas. In aromatherapy, Spearmint is used for increased energy and stress relief. The sweet and fresh aroma is both comforting and invigorating.

Squalane
Olive Squalane
Squalane is a luxurious moisturizing agent derived from Olives. It is easily absorbed by the skin because it is a plant-based derivative of ‘Squalene’ an oily molecule that occurs naturally in the sebum of human skin. With aging, the skin’s natural Squalene production declines, and thus loses its moisture, smoothness and strength. Olive sourced Squalane helps to minimize the appearance of wrinkles and cracks in the skin caused by extreme dryness. It is easily absorbed into the skin, and also protects against the harsh effects of weather, pollution and sun damage. Squalane’s powerful anti-aging properties help skin to age gracefully, lessening the appearance of any existing damage. It also serves to balance oil production, giving just the right amount of moisture to keep skin clear and healthy. It is suitable for all skin types, even very oily skin, and helps reduce symptoms of acne and eczema.

Tea tree oil, also known as Melaleuca, is well-known for its powerful antiseptic properties and ability to treat wounds. Native to Australia, is has become popular worldwide as one of the most useful antiseptic essential oils. Tea Tree’s antimicrobial properties are beneficial for the symptoms of skin conditions such as acne and eczema. It is so versatile that it is used for everything from household cleaners and deodorants to dandruff shampoos and mouthwash. Tea Tree is unlikely to cause irritation and therefore is very popular in facial care products.

Thyme Oil

Thyme Oil has potent antioxidant and anti-microbial properties. It is well known for its ability to kill bacteria on the skins surface. It is also useful in lessening the appearance of acne scaring. Thyme is also anti-inflammatory, making it especially useful in reducing the swelling and redness associated with breakouts.

Vanilla Planifolia

Vanilla Oil is rich in antioxidants and helps to slow down signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles and age spots. It is effective in promoting smooth, soft, moisturized skin.
